The GIANT Room Partners with LEGO Education
The GIANT Room partners with LEGO Education to bring families’ voices into the design process of a new set of LEGO Education products.
The GIANT Room, an innovation hub for children and their families, is pleased to announce they are partnering with LEGO Education to offer four FREE family design workshops. These workshops are designed to bring together diverse groups of families with researchers and designers from the LEGO Education team, who will be joining us in New York City from Denmark. The goal of these workshops is for families to interact directly with the LEGO Education team, play with their new set of products, engage in exchanging design ideas with the team, and even build prototypes of their own ideas. Families with children ages 6 to 10 years old are invited to apply.
Participation entails one child and one parent joining one free workshop as a duo team. During the workshop, participants will engage with LEGO Education designers and collaborate with them in designing a new suite of products. Kids who join will have a chance to learn and practice the art of giving and receiving feedback, and then join a prototyping exercise with industry innovators and researchers. These workshops will be held in person at The GIANT Room in New York City, free of charge for families.
Central to The GIANT Room’s mission is the notion that all children should have access to quality creative STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) tools and learning experiences to build the world they like to live in. “We believe the best creative STEM tools are the ones that are designed with children’s point of view in mind, and even better, those that are designed with children involved in the design process,” said Dr. Azi Jamalian, founder of The GIANT Room. “Kids and their parents have wonderful ideas to share. If given the opportunity, they design the most magical tools, toys, and products that can enlighten millions of other families.”
“Having a chance to participate in the design process of a real product before it is ready for market gives kids an opportunity to learn about the process it takes for an idea from its inception to full implementation”, said Dr. Azi Jamalian. “It is important for kids to see how some of the most talented designers in the world go through the process of prototyping, receiving feedback, and updating their designs until it is ready to be shared with the world. That’s the only way, kids will trust their own process of learning and creating, with open hearts and minds for failing forward and persistence. Even more importantly, by making prototypes of their own ideas and sharing them with the designers, kids will develop confidence in their ideas and believe they are worthy of paying attention to.”
Participation in this program is completely free for all families. We are accepting a limited number of families in New York City to participate in the program. Families with children ages 6 to 10 years old are invited to apply.
