The GIANT Room partners with Lysol to bring kids’ voices into the design process of a series of Science Kits for schools
The GIANT Room, an innovation lab for children and their families, is pleased to announce they are partnering with Lysol, the #1 most trusted and pediatrician-recommended disinfecting brand in the US, to co-design a series of Science Kits for schools as part of their HERE for Healthy Schools initiative. We are bringing together diverse groups of youth with researchers and industry innovators to put learning, wellbeing, and DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) at the center of product development for these kits to be distributed in schools in the upcoming academic year. Families with children ages 7 to 9 years old are invited to apply.
Participation entails joining one workshop focused on co-designing and prototyping a series of science games, activities, and experiments with Lysol and GIANT design teams. Kids who join will have a chance to learn and practice the art of giving and receiving feedback and then to join a prototyping exercise with industry innovators and researchers on June 25th held in person at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, free of charge for families. Additional workshops will be announced for July.
Lysol is committed to giving parents and teachers the resources they need to keep kids healthy and in school. The intended impact of the HERE for Healthy Schools program is to reduce school absenteeism through creating hands-on activities that are fun and engaging while teaching the science of germs and better hygiene behaviors.
The GIANT Room believes the most engaging and effective learning experiences are the ones that are designed with children’s point of view in mind, and even better, those that are designed with children involved in the design process. Kids have wonderful ideas to share. If given the opportunity, they design the most magical products and learning experiences that can enlighten thousands of classrooms. This partnership allows kids to have a voice in designing Science Kits with activities and lesson plans that are not only engaging, fun, and educational but also easy to implement in classrooms through careful consideration of alignment with core school subjects and standards.
This program is completely free for children to participate. We are accepting a limited number of children in New York City to participate in the program. Families with children ages 7 to 9 years old are invited to apply.
