Killingly Cartoons! Monster and Food Themed Comics Made in Partnership with Killingly Public Library

Once again, we have had the amazing pleasure of partnering with Killingly Public Library on yet another successful and very fun remix: Killingly Cartoons! Our partnership with Killingly is one of many fun and fulfilling community based projects, as we have the pleasure of collaborating with families and individuals on their unique and artistic ideas! We are always looking to partner with other communities of all kinds. If you are interested, feel free to reach out at any time to studio@thegiantroom.com.

Co-designed and co-written by 50 families, librarians, AI, and a multidisciplinary team of artists, educators, and writers at The GIANT Room, this comic book is filled with a multitude of unique monster and food themed stories dreamed up by participants.

The GIANT Room came to Killingly Public Library and set up a station, and together we hosted an event to kick off the remix! The remix was live and accepting submissions every day the library was open from October 26th to November 27th.

Submission station at Killingly Public Library

At the event, our participating writers saw their craft monsters come to life and turn into comic characters in real time. GIANT team members took a photo of the monster created, inputted the image into Leonardo AI, and then asked participants to give feedback to improve upon the image and bring their vision to life. The end result was a cover page for the accompanying comic they also wrote at the event, featuring the monster they created as the main character.

The submission box remained open until November 27th. On the mission sheet that accompanied the comic, Killingly cartoonists described the world in which their comic is set, who their main character is, and their own name and age. All of this information was used to create personalized covers for each comic.

In total, we had 50 goofy, creative, and intriguing comic submissions. When submissions closed, the remix commenced! GIANT team members got to work generating AI covers for the comics using Leonardo AI. Once that was all finished, the AI generated covers were sent to participants for feedback. All feedback and additional ideas were incorporated before the final product was published.

Now, the book is published and available to order or download! Special thanks to Killingly librarian, Claudette Stockwell, for overseeing another great project as a part of this partnership! These remixes are a great way to bring a community together through artistic and creative collaboration.

To celebrate the publication of Killingly Cartoons, the library hosted a party where participants got to take a look at the final book as well as the posters!
