Turn Your Room Into A Runway Lookbook in Partnership with MCNY
Turn Your Room Into A Runway Lookbook
The Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) partnered with The GIANT Room to offer three weeks of summer programs, inspired by their various exhibitions. This lookbook showcases the creative journeys our participants went on during the New York, Capital of Fashion camp.
We have prepared this book as a resource for all families who are interested in experiencing our program, but didn't have the chance to join us. This book also invites those who did join the program to continue with their journey, take their creations further, and keep on sharing with their community.
Part I: Clothing Design
Inspired by Enrique Torres, Zang Toi, and Whiting & Davis Co.’s iconic fashion pieces, we invited participants to design their own fancy attire, while thinking about color, material, and theme.
Part II: Accessories and Wearable Tech
Inspired by Catherine Miller’s 14-carat diamond-encrusted Furby pendant, we invited participants to make their accessories, like jewelry, tote bags, and even step-counters!
Part III: Fashion Show & Gala Event
Inspired by NY At Its Core: World City 1898-2020, we invited particpants to celebrate their fashion collection with a runway show! Kids designed and created their own runways, stop motion animations, and clothing shops.
Participants were then encouraged to take their creative journeys further, creating new stories, new inventions, and prototypes of new ideas, and sharing their work by displaying it at the museum and publishing it in this book.
This lookbook invites families from all around the world to go on a similar creative journey, dream, experiment, and design for a more equitable, diverse, and sustainable future of fashion in our city!
