DESCRIPTION: For kids who dare to begin their creative stories at one of the top design schools in the world, SVA!
Join us for a special GIANT one-day program for kids 5 to 12 years old, to be hosted at School of Visual Arts creative studios. This one day camp is focused on creative storytelling, biomimicry, (inventions inspired by nature), and AI prompt engineering.
In the morning, we’ll think like inventors and design inventions inspired by nature. We’ll get inspirations from the Biomimicry book, design new inventions, and make prototypes using a variety of creative tech and maker tools. We’ll then create avatars of the animals that inspired our designs, and put it all together on our invention cards to be published at the end of the camp day. Will you design indestructible clothing inspired by lotus flowers, develop radars inspired by bats, make an LED flashlight inspired by anglerfish, or design something totally new inspired by multiple animals and forces of nature?
In the afternoon, we’ll learn new storytelling techniques and write comic strips using GIANT original character cards. We’ll then engage in learning the art of character design, design our own characters with their unique traits and personalities, and play fun storytelling games using our cards.
Participants will learn prompt engineering techniques and explore AI creative tools to generate images; create digital assets in Canva; make physical prototypes with simple electronics, and arts and crafts materials; explore storytelling techniques and work towards publishing their own GIANT Remix media.
For one day, GIANT kids will have their own desk at the SVA studio and access to lockers, lounge area, reading room, and the pod- cast recording room.
Recommended for kids 5 to 12 (Participants will be divided into two groups based on their age)

LEARN ABOUT
AI Literacy and Prompt Engineering: Fundamentals in generative image and text AI prompt engineering techniques (prompt elements, styles, and feedback); Understand how AI work, learn how to critique AI outputs while reflecting on ethics, biases, and hallucinations (AI’s wrong outputs)
Interaction design, Ideation and Prototyping: Learn and practice a user-centered design process; Make prototypes of your ideas with variety of hands-on tools and creative tech platforms; Learn how to work collaboratively with a team of peers and evaluate each others’ work; Share ideas in front of an audience and use feedback to refine your thinking
Storytelling: Practice storytelling as a tool for creating and communicating design
solutions. All participants will publish their own books, cards, and other media throughout their residency.
