Creative STEM Camp @MCNY - 100 Years: City Planning, Storytelling, and Activism in NYC

  • The Museum of City of New York 1220 5th Avenue New York, NY, 10029 United States (map)

DESCRIPTION: For kids who dare to think of new stories about New York Cityand share through doodles, comics, character design, animation, photographs, digital illustrations, and immersive VR and AR experiences! In honor of the centennial of the founding of the Museum of the City of New York as the city’s storyteller, campers will interact with This Is New York: 100 Years of the City in Art and Pop Culture exhibition and explore the many ways that the city has inspired storytelling.

Campers will write their original stories, design new characters and worlds, learn techniques to master their storytelling as well as doodling and clay modeling skills, and publish their very own comics, photograph series, animation, and zines! Campers will also explore ways to use their voice for a cause they care about, being inspired by the Activist New York Exhibition. In addition, participants bring imaginary worlds to life through Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Tinkercad, CoSpaces (for VR and AR), p5.js, and more. We'll cover the fundamentals in digital design, editing photos, designing graphics and 3D modeling techniques while working with the coding language and tools that are compatible with their level of expertise. This program is a dream for kids who love to express themselves using variety of media.
