Creative STEM Residency- Theme: All About Pokémons, Design, Make, 3D Print, Play!

  • The GIANT Room 550 West 28th Street New York, NY, 10001 United States (map)

DESCRIPTION: Pokémon’s creator, Satoshi Tajiri, was obsessed with collecting and training bugs in his childhood, and that obsession brought to life the fascinating world of Pokémon! From a video game to a pop culture icon, there is a character for everyone to love and construct: Pikachu that can generate powerful electricity with extra soft and super stretchy cheeks, Raichu with Its long tail that serves as a ground to protect itself from its own high-voltage power, Beedrill with three poisonous stingers on its forelegs and its tail, Munchlax who eats anything, Mothim who flies around stealing honey at night, or Wigglytuff who can inflate itself to an enormous size to intimidate opponents. Campers will dive into the world of Pokémons, draw their favorite characters, build them using arts and crafts materials and modeling clay, and design their own Pokemon inspired games and comics.

Pokémon has even made its mark in the realm of science. This includes animals named after Pokémon, such as Stentorceps weedlei (named after the Pokémon Weedle for its resemblance) and Chilicola Charizard Monckton (named after the Pokémon Charizard). There is also a protein named after Pikachu, called Pikachurin. What new creature, plant, or place would you design and name after Pokémon?
