Published by the Museum of Modern Art, “This Book is a Camera” is devised and written by Kelli Anderson and is actually a working camera that lives in a pop-up book! In the book, you’ll find: a piece of paper folded into a working 4x5" camera, a lightproof bag, 5 sheets of photo-paper "film", and development instructions using household ingredients or photo chemicals. There is also a companion lightmeter app available for iPhone. “This Book is a Camera” is a satisfying demonstration of the connection between design & science and structure & function. In Kelli’s concise and well-articulated writing, she explains how a structure as simple as paper can tap into the intrinsic properties of light to produce a photograph.
“This Book is a Camera” book has sparked many GIANT kids imagination to build amazing projects inspired by their imagination. We have used Augmented Reality (AR) technology to showcase a number of these projects on top of selected pages of the book.
We invite our community to check out the book, explore kids’ projects through AR experience on their mobile, get inspirations, build their own projects, and send us a photo of their projects.
